Membership Charges

Fuel Factory Bryncynon will be introducing new, annual membership charges from Monday 30th June. This is in response to the extra demand being placed on the pump, and the need to purchase new equipment (for pumping, storage, etc.), making the pump more theft-proof and to compensate for the extra staff time required to pump quantities of up to and around 200 litres daily to our expanding membership.

Fuel Factory Bryncynon is still a not-for-profit project, with any extra money gained from sales or membership being ploughed back into pump maintenance, staff salaries, new equipment, etc.

A switch of supply

Just to let people know that Fuel Factory is now sourcing its fuel from SWB Cymru in Swansea. SWB's fuel is made from 100% recycled veg oil and, like that of Sundance Renewables, meets the EN14214 quality standard.

Two new pumps coming soon....

The Fuel Factory directors' meeting held on Monday 31st March saw an agreement to push on with the expansion of the project, with two new pumps scheduled to come online within the next few months. One of these will definitely be sited at Arts Factory's Highfield site, with the third location as yet undecided.

Thanks again to Steve Harris and Science Shops Wales for their continuing support in making things happen on the ground.

Updates on the progress of the new pumps will be posted as they happen

A note about our fuel

The biodiesel industry is under a serious amount of scrutiny, and no little criticism, at present. What is worse is that a lot of this criticism is justified, and comes from sectors of the environmental lobby who, it would be thought, would be some of its greatest advocates.

The central point of contention is the fact that, with ambitious targets for biodiesel usage set by both the European Union and the US, a large proportion of the biodiesel currently available on the global market is derived from oils taken directly from monocropped sources, often in the developing world.

The high prices that can be fetched for oils for biofuels at present have led to large-scale deforestation and the destruction of fragile habitats in the rush to plant oil crops, and to land that could - and should - be planted for food crops being given over to the growing of plants for the biofuels industry.

Fuel Factory would like to point out that the fuel it currently sources from Sundance Renewables, and any fuel it produces itself in the future, will not be derived from such sources. All Fuel Factory biodiesel is and will continue to be processed from recycled oils that have already been used in the catering industry.

...and a new logo, too!

After much deliberation Fuel Factory's directors have decided upon this logo to represent the company.

Another small step, yet another tangible move forward towards achieving our original vision

New Pump is Primed!

Fuel Factory's first pump, and only the second community owned biodiesel pump in Wales - is now fully operational. Following delivery and installation at the rear of the Bryncynon Community Development Centre, Fuel Factory is now supplying biodiesel manufactured to standard EN14214 to individuals or organisations who are serious about reducing their emissions.

Priced at £1.03 per litre our biodiesel is available Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 4:30. Please click here for directions.

The pump is operated on a membership basis, which simply requires the filling in of a short form on reception. Customers are free to start fuelling up from this point onwards.

Science Shops Wales sponsors first FF pump!

Christmas came early this year, with in principle agreement from Steve Harris of Science Shops Wales to fund the first community owned biodiesel pump in southeast Wales.

The monies will pay for a secure DERV station, comprising of bunded storage tank, pump, hose and nozzle contained within a secure, steel, lockable container. The funding will also pay for site preparation, marketing of the venture and the first 1000 litres of biodiesel.

The pump is to be located on Bryncynon Strategy's premises and manned by Strategy staff and volunteers. We're hoping to take delivery on the 21st of this month. Fuel Factory intends to start putting together a membership only user group of potential customers and supporters within the next few weeks.
